Top Field Aims For Drag Title

1968 King Of Kings Sixteen Ladder - Lakeland Raceway Lakeland Drag Strip's super stock season finale, the King of Kings Sixteen will be held today at 2 p.m.

A field of 16 cars, including two Memphis entries, will be competing for the $11,000 purse.

The Memphis entries are Bill Taylor and Pat Collins in the 'Super Cuda,' a 1968 supercharged Plymouth, and Larry Coleman in a 1969 Ford Torino.

The 'Super Cuda' is fresh from a win in the New York Nationals in August where it turned 195 miles per hour in the quarter mile.

Coleman's entry has consistently exceeded 190 mph in the past few weeks. the Ford is powered by a 437 single overhead cam engine.

Three Chevrolet cars will be in the field and all will be powered by L-88 engines. 'Jungle Jim' Liberman will be in a 1969 Chevy II, Dickie Harrell in a 1968 Camaro and a Corvair, the Seaton Shaker will run.

The event, which has the largest purse of any drag meet ever in the Mid-South, is sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association.
